Year in review: Powermode’s expanded horizons

With its presence in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market in South Africa firmly established and a burgeoning power systems servicing business in place, Powermode launched its entry into the solar photovoltaic (PV) market in 2012.

Powermode, recognised as a leading power assurance, service and solutions company, is targeting the burgeoning rooftop solar PV market which is poised for exponential growth with the increase in interest in ‘green energy’, according to managing director, Jack Ward.

“When incentives for the rooftop solar panel market are clarified, a viable green industry should be created with the capacity to employ many thousands of workers,” he says.

“In fact, the rooftop PV market has the potential to create an entire industry populated by suppliers, local manufacturers and skilled artisans. It holds the promise of sustainable employment with the proliferation of small businesses to service its needs.”

In 2012 Powermode signed and acquired agencies for solar PV products from international suppliers including PV panels, solar inverters, related mounting hardware and monitoring systems. Backing these offerings is Powermode’s existing county-wide service and support infrastructure.

Ward says technical expertise and backup support are two of the most important considerations when choosing a supplier and investing in a solar PV installation.

“For Powermode, our nationwide footprint and our ability to sell, support and contractually maintain a range of alternative power systems – including solar PV systems - are central to our business philosophy and proven marketplace acceptance,” asserts Ward.

Looking ahead, he says Powermode is driving towards significant gains in market penetration in the solar PV sector, complementing its successes in targeting major retail chains, financial services companies and banking institutions with its established power provisioning and support services.
